Volunteering and charity days at Trustmarque
Our teams across the UK have been giving time back to local communities and charities as part of our volunteering and responsible business objectives. Throughout the year our colleagues have been taking part in a range of activities from running the London Marathon to a 100-mile bike trip in the Yorkshire countryside and litter-picking on Britain’s beaches.
Here’s what some of our volunteers have been doing over the last few months from Cardiff, London and York:
Gardening at Horatio’s Gardens
In early October, some of the Voice Network Services Team volunteered for the day at Horatio’s Gardens at the Welsh Spinal Injury Rehabilitation Centre in University Hospital Llandough, Cardiff.
Howard Jackson, Customer Success Manager adds:
“We had a brilliant day helping out the charity in the most beautiful garden, we got to it with weeding, sowing grass seeds, bulb planting and establishing garden beds. More importantly, we were able to talk to the patients.”
“The head Gardener, Owen, was extremely pleased with the hard work, effort and enthusiasm put into the day.”
More about Horatio’s Gardens
Horatio’s Gardens is a national charity creating and nurturing gardens in NHS spinal injury centres to support everyone affected by spinal injury. Each Horatio’s Garden offers patients, their loved ones and NHS staff a beautiful sanctuary where they can relax away from the ward.
As the majority of patients face extended stays in hospitals far from home, Horatio’s Garden becomes an integral part of people’s lives over many months. Visits from family and friends are precious and the gardens give everyone a comfortable, warm, and welcoming place to simply enjoy each other’s company.
Preparing for Christmas with Crisis
In October, seven Trustmarque colleagues volunteered at the Crisis food distribution warehouse. The goal of the day was to support Crisis by unpacking and organising their new permanent warehouse space in Canning Town, London.
Every year Crisis at Christmas opens its doors to people who are facing homelessness during the festive period. As a national charity, Crisis offer much-needed warmth, healthcare, food and company to people experiencing homelessness across the UK.
Conservation work with Yorkshire Wildlife Trust
During the first week of November, a group of colleagues from Trustmarque’s Sales and Marketing teams took part in a volunteering day with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, at Strensall Common, York.
Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is a charity dedicated to conserving, protecting and restoring wildlife and wild places in Yorkshire. Their vision is for a Yorkshire that is abundant in wildlife, with more people having a genuine and meaningful connection with nature.
Digital Marketing Manager, Charlie Temple said:
“It was a beautiful autumn day when we carried out some scrub reduction work. This consisted of cutting down small willow trees and piling the branches up to create shelters for small animals and birds. The trees had grown in and around a natural pond and were causing it to dry out completely in summer thereby affecting the water habitat for invertebrates, birds, and other animals.”
Well done to everyone who stepped away from their day jobs to give something back this year!
